NFL and Pro Bowl Veterans Convene to Discuss "Pro Bowl Hawaii: 4th and Long?" on July 23 at Hukilau

The Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii (DACH) will convene a lunchtime panel of Pro Bowl veteran insiders to discuss the future of the Pro Bowl in Hawaii and what needs to be done to ensure the big game remains in the Islands. The public is invited to attend this panel discussion on Tuesday, July 23, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and the program starting at noon at Hukilau Restaurant Honolulu in the Executive Centre, located at 1088 Bishop Street, in downtown Honolulu.? The $20 admission includes a buffet lunch; to RSVP, call 523-3460 (Hukilau reservations).?

The Pro Bowl is a time-honored tradition in the National Football League, but its popularity has been waning for the past several years. Questions linger as to whether the all-star contest needs to reinvent itself to attract greater interest, what can Hawaii do to secure the Pro Bowl beyond 2014, and what the economic impact will be to the state if Hawaii were to lose the game.

Bobby Curran, host of ESPN 1420?s ?Bobby Curran Show,? will moderate ?Pro Bowl Hawaii: 4th and Long,? an insightful discussion with three esteemed panelists:

  • Olin Kreutz, Legendary center for the Chicago Bears from 1998 to 2010, including selection to six Pro Bowls, Kreutz is an alumnus of St. Louis High School, where he earned All-State honors, and a two-time All-Pac-10 pick at the University of Washington.
  • Frank Vuono, Heralded as one of the most influential and prominent executives in professional sports marketing, he consulted for more than half of the teams in the NFL and negotiated record-breaking partnerships in naming rights, sponsorship, licensing, merchandising and ticket sales.? As the Vice President of Retail Licensing for NFL Properties (NFLP) from 1985-1993, Vuono built sales of licensed products from approximately $300 million to over $2.5 billion, and is currently co-founder and partner in 16W Marketing, LLC.
  • David Uchiyama, Vice-President, Brand Management for the Hawaii Tourism Authority, served as the chief negotiator for the HTA in talks with the NFL. Uchiyama works closely with the Pro Bowl Committee to build attendance, garner media exposure, and improve Pro Bowl week experiences for residents and visitors.
