Sharper Image Cooling Station

Every so often, a product graces the PCMag Labs that will leave more than a few of us scratching our heads in befuddlement. Enter the Sharper Image Cooling Station ($79.99 direct), an item whose main purpose somewhat eludes me. Ostensibly, it's a portable keyboard with a built-in touchpad for your laptop, yet it can only work inches away from the laptop's keyboard. And, as the name implies, it also cools your laptop, but that requires the laptop to be placed in a ridiculously awkward position in order to accommodate the built-in keyboard. And therein lies the main problem with the Sharper Image Cooling Station: while there's obviously nothing inherently wrong with portable keyboards or cooling stations in and of themselves, a combination of the two winds up compromising the utility of both elements to such an extent that the overall product consequently suffers as a whole.

Now, I'm fully aware that Sharper Image isn't a company known for computing prowess. It's more of an entity that specializes in innovative-cum-gimmicky items ranging from foot massagers to automatic tie racks. This lack of focus is apparent with the cooling station. It's a hastily sketched out idea that tries to perform more than one function and winds up doing none of them adequately.

Design
The Sharper Image Cooling Station is constructed out of flimsy plastic and comes in a silver finish. It folds open and close like a laptop, and when it's open and laid out flat, the unit is 17 inches wide and 13.75 inches long, whereas it stands at about 9 inches tall when opened up like a laptop. Opening it up for the first time is a mildly jarring experience because you encounter a keyboard in the lower half but no screen above it, like an incomplete laptop. Instead, you place the bottom of the laptop on this upper portion while tilting your screen upwards. In the end, you wind up with an eye-level screen and the strangely disconcerting, Shining-esque sight of two keyboards staring at you point blank. From an aesthetic angle, the Cooling Station's keyboard is a dead ringer for the MacBook Pro's keyboard, so its keys are in the familiar chiclet style. But while the Cooling Station's keyboard emulates the MacBook Pro's look, the keyboard also has a Windows Start Menu button since it's meant to be compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. As a mini keyboard, its size is nearly identical as the Evoluent Essentials Full Featured Compact Keyboard (EKB) ($49.95 direct, 3.5 stars). There's also a touchpad beneath the keyboard which, despite its superficial similarity to the MacBook's touchpad, does not feature any multi-touch capabilities, like two-finger scrolling.

But before you actually mount your laptop onto this thing, you'll notice a few features on the upper half, namely three horizontally arranged cooling fans that the Cooling Station owes its namesake to. There's a rectangular flap beneath the fans that you push out so it sits obliquely on an adjustable plastic panel behind the system, sort of like a picture frame; adjusting the flap's tilt in turn alters the viewing angle of the laptop screen. There's a removable plastic window to the left of the flap that opens up to reveal a built-in USB 2.0 cable that powers the Cooling System's fans.

To the left of the keyboard are three additional ports: there's a micro USB port for connecting the keyboard and touchpad to your laptop (via the included USB 2.0 cable), as well as two available USB 2.0 ports for connecting additional peripherals. Annoyingly, the micro USB port and the built-in USB cable are both located on the Cooling Station's left side, so if there aren't any USB ports on the left side of your laptop, it'll take some patience and creativity to hook the Cooling System to your Laptop; this problem is exacerbated by the fact that both the included USB cable and the built-in cable are only 21 inches long and, consequently, offer very little slack.

Performance
Although the Sharper Image Cooling Station's three cooling fans performed decently and succeeded in lowering my laptop's temperature by 2 degrees Celsius after a few minutes, its built-in keyboard and touchpad must also be considered since the three are inextricably linked and, in appraising the item holistically, the good must also be evaluated in addition to the bad. And, man, there's plenty of that going on here.

Despite Sharper Image's claims that the Cooling Station increases productivity, I found the opposite to be true in actual practice. The combination of a tiny palm rest that forces your hands off the edges and flimsy plastic material made typing on the Cooling Station's built-in keyboard an exceedingly difficult and frustrating endeavor. While the Cooling Station's keyboard succeeds in emulating the MacBook Pro's aesthetic, it doesn't come anywhere near the latter in terms of quality and performance. The Cooling Station's stiff and clacky keys are almost entirely devoid of springiness. Unlike the better, equally portable Evoluent Essentials Keyboard (EKB), there are no hot keys whatsoever. Only the most basic keys are here. Even standard, fairly ubiquitous function keys like screen brightness and volume control haven't been included. These omissions paradoxically force you to return to your laptop's now-vertically positioned keyboard to access these keys even while another keyboard sits directly in front of you, thus begging the question: why even bother using this keyboard at all, especially when your laptop almost invariably comes equipped with a better one? Those looking for a portable keyboard to use in addition to their laptop's would be much better served by the significantly cheaper Verbatim Mini Wireless SlimBoard Keyboard & Mouse ($30 street, 3 stars), which also boasts wireless connectivity, or the Evoluent Essentials (EKB) since it's practically the same size as the Cooling Station's built-in keyboard and also sports hot keys that would actually succeed in increasing productivity.

It doesn't help that the keyboard lacks rigidity and give off an overwhelming sensation of cheapness. The shallow area where the keys are located feels disconcertingly hollow, and typing on it with a normal level of intensity yielded a noticeable amount of bending beneath the weight of rapid keystrokes. Overall, the Cooling Station made for an unpleasant typing experience. The cramped keyboard served as a prelude to the even more cramped and equally limited touchpad. Its responsiveness was average at best and its left- and right- click buttons were stiff and clunky. As mentioned earlier, there aren't any multi-touch capabilities on the touchpad. As was the case with the Cooling Station's keyboard, you'd very likely be better off using your laptop's touchpad, or with a mouse-keyboard combination like the Verbatim Mini Wireless SlimBoard Keyboard & Mouse or its full-sized counterpart, the Verbatim Wireless Slim Keyboard and Mouse ($63.00 direct, 3 stars).

In the end, the Sharper Image Cooling Station's lack of focus seals its fate. It's a cooling system that harbors aspirations of being a keyboard, and it consequently performs poorly as whole. Even if it didn't come with an inflated price tag, its odd design and lackluster keyboard and touchpad make for a strange, entirely half-baked product you're better off avoiding.

Go for the automated tie rack instead.

Compare the Sharper Image Cooling Station with several other keyboards side by side.

Video: Facebook trades below expectations

>>> good evening. brian has the night off. i'm leston holt. it's the technology empire built on the willingness of people around the world, 900 million active users at last count, to share the details of their lives. and finally today, after much hype, facebook is sharing its fortunes. it went public today in one of the most apted public offerings in years, opening onhe nasdic under the symbol fb, but despite soaring expectations and liked among eager investors, facebook shares this afternoon closed barely above their opening close. it was a rough opening day in more ways than one for the giant, and maria is here with more. good evening.

>> good evening, thank you so much. it's just eight years after computer hacker mark zuckerberg sat in his dorm room in harvard university and created what is now knoep as facebook . he took the company public, and day one oza bit of a bumpy ride. facebookarel maged t meet its ipo price.

>> let's do this.

>> it started with 28-year-old ceo mark zuckerberg ceremonially ringing the opening bell after staying up all night with employees at the company's menlo park headquarters. but the first trade scheduled for 11:00 a.m . was delayed by overwhelming trading volume that also swamped sites like etrade.

>> nasdaq had tested all week long, but obviously, it still overwhelmed the system.

>> finally, at 11:30 --

>> now it is officially a public company available for everybody to by shares should they desire.

>> the first trade at $42.05, up nearly 11% from the ipo price. on facebook 's website, this update from the ceo. mark zuckerberg listed a company on nasdaq , but the stock dropped quickly soon after, trading well below expectations and the volume continued to cause problems with communications.

>> what went wrong today is when people put in buy orders and other people put in sell orders, they never got the word or confmation on whether the order went through.

>> they were working to deliver pending trade execution status messages from the facebook ipo . once those confirmations started coming in around 2:00 p.m ., the stock started closing again, closing just 23 cents above the ipo price. what went wrong? many analysts believe it was overvalued from the get go. it is valued at $104 billion. making it bigger than companies like mcdonald's or visa. carly was ceo of lucent when it went public in 1996 , the largest ipo in history at that time. she said it's now up to facebook from here?

>> an the company monetize the 900 million relations.

>> now, let's not forget, with all of the noise around the deal and the sloppy trading, facebook was still able to raise $16 billion on a day that the mockt was weak and the down has din down. it's a tough time, so not as strong as expected, but a strong capital raise nonetheless. huge numbers.

>> watching it play off, i'm left waondering who had the worse day, facebook or nasdaq ?

>> nasdaq . they fought to get the listi on facebook . they got it and then they were overwhelmed by the volume and the trouble executing today. a lot of people never even got their confirmation reports. they thought they bought at $40. it was actually $42.

>> it comes alt the end of another dismal day on wall street . the dow was down 73 point today. that's the longest losing streak since 1974 . the nasdaq was down, just under 35 points, and the s & p 500 fell more than 9, wrapping up their worst weekly lossoffs the year.

A random act of kindness lifts spirits in London

By Ian Johnston, msnbc.com

LONDON -- An apparently homeless man looks through a trashcan for food. Many people in big cities like London would simply walk on by.

But not Lewis Dediara. The 47-year-old was cycling to Parliament Hill park to fly a kite, when he noticed the ?clearly hungry? man and decided to help, the London Evening Standard reported.

He got off his bicycle and offered to buy the man food from a nearby store. The encounter was captured by a camera Dediara wears on his helmet after he was knocked off his bicycle twice by vehicles in the past, the paper said.

?Are you hungry sir? ... Tell me what you want. Go and pick whatever you like ? I?ll buy it for you, get anything you want,? Dediara says to the man.

'Is that all you want?'
The man picks up only a pint of milk and a bag of chips, and Dediara, who posted the video on YouTube, is heard asking more than once, ?Is that all you want? You sure??

The video, entitled "Always Help your Fellow Man," has gotten more than 60,000 views since it was posted on May 13.

Dediara, originally from Nigeria, told the Evening Standard he was ?astonished? by the popularity of the film.

"I saw this man standing there - he was clearly hungry. When I saw him rooting through the bin I couldn't just leave him there,? he told the paper. "I come from a family where we are raised to help others when we see them suffering. I should have bought him more than what he wanted. Next time I see him I'll buy him a burger."

He added he had put the clip on YouTube because "sometimes London is a place where people don't take the time to care for others."

British queen's lunch guests spark controversy?

Comments added by people who viewed the video appeared to be mostly positive.

"Thank you mr cyclist man ! seeing this give me hope in humanity," one wrote.

"That is good, we need more people like you and I shall do? the same given the opportunity!" said another.

"One time outside a subway in canada some homless drug addict came to? me pan handling in exchange to wash my windows on my car. I didnt have cash so i bought him a sub. Best feeling ever...," wrote a third.

World's most expensive cable car might not be ready for Olympics

There was, however, some cynicism.

"One side I feel good for what you did,? another side of me asks the question, would he have done that if not for the go pro [video] on his head?" wrote one viewer.?

'American Idol' judges spread the love for final 3

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? The three "American Idol" finalists earned nearly uniform votes of confidence Wednesday from the show's judges. Now it's the audience tally that will determine which two compete for glory in next week's finale.

If the night had a teacher's pet, it was Joshua Ledet, 20, who delivered what Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler deemed flawless performances. Each contestant performed three songs: One picked by the judges, one by producer-mentor Jimmy Iovine, and one chosen by the singers themselves.

Ledet's gritty version of Etta James' "I'd Rather Be Blind" had the judges on their feet, a common reaction to the Louisiana gospel singer. He also impressed the panel with John Lennon's "Imagine" and Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama."

"This is another Joshua moment," Tyler said after the James cover, adding that Ledet sounded like an "American Idol" winner.

Jessica Sanchez, 16, of San Diego, didn't disappoint the judges on their pick for her, Mariah Carey's "My All." It drew what verged on another Tyler prediction.

"When you sing, you make people hang on your every note. ... You'll be the last one standing here, I believe," the rocker said.

There was praise as well for Sanchez's take on "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," from Tyler's band Aerosmith, but Randy Jackson found her performance of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" just "OK," differing with his colleagues.

Bluesy, guitar-strumming Phillip Phillips, 21, of Leesburg, Ga., had the audience swooning over his version of "Beggin'" by Madcon.

"Can you believe this guy?" Tyler said, gesturing toward the cheering crowd and suggesting that Phillips could be the "next Springsteen" if he wrote his own songs.

Phillips faltered with Matchbox 20's "Disease," which the judges deemed subdued and unimpressive, but he rebounded with Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight."

"The perfect song, at the perfect time, and your best performance on the show ever," gushed Jackson.

The audience vote will be announced on Thursday's show, which is to feature Lisa Marie Presley and former "American Idol" finalist Adam Lambert.

Hometown victory laps by the trio of finalists were chronicled Wednesday, starting with Ledet's trip to Westlake, La.

"They are really acting like I'm Barack Obama," a wide-eyed Ledet said of the police escort that shepherded him from the airport.

Sanchez, who got a lift from Los Angeles to San Diego by helicopter, was cheered during a dockside visit to the USS Midway and saluted her father, who she said served overseas as a naval reservist.

Phillips had an emotional reunion with his dad, Phillip Phillips Sr.

"To see your children doing what they love to do with integrity and passion, it's a dream come true for me," the elder Phillips said.

Trinnos Technology News and Updates: Business Continuity ...

In today?s fast paced world, technology tools are the centerpiece of running day to day operations, for example, the constant use of computers and the phone system. Although this has proven to be convenient, efficient and beneficial in many aspects, storing crucial information has increased the difficulty and need for data protection. According to the Gulf Coast Back to Business Act (2007), congress reported 43 percent of businesses who closed due to a natural disaster will never reopen; perhaps this is due to the alarming fact that, 50 percent of businesses did not have a recovery plan in place.

With 65 percent of small businesses located in areas prone to disasters, the costs of an IT outage (an average of $12,000 per day for small businesses if computers are down) should be avoided and prepared for. Disasters do not discriminate, and will strike, regardless of whether or not a business has taken proper precautions. The impact on staff with loss of technology, and the costs of recreating lost data due to physical damage, server failure or a power outage are enormous and at times, Impossible.

Business Continuity
A business continuity plan is a strategy set to deal with larger system outages, ranging from a long term power outage to a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, fire, theft or earthquake, which would cause substantial damage to an office. Business continuity has become less expensive and more obtainable for small businesses, as the flexibility provided with virtual servers allows for more infrastructure options at a significantly reduced cost.

A regularly tested, secure disaster recovery plan should be set for every company to ensure the best precautions, procedures and optimal results occur. It is key to continuously test backup and business continuity plans to ensure they are solid. Many companies have made the mistake of considering a plan adequate, only to have it fail once it is needed. Something as simple as an employee not granted the correct level of access could cause the failure of an otherwise flawless plan.

Protecting Phone Systems
Phones should always be considered when planning. In the event of a disaster phones would ring, and go without being answered. One option would be to have calls forwarded to cell phones, or to a recording advising callers that the phones are not available. A more efficient alternative would be to apply the use of virtual phones systems. VOIP (Voice over IP) solutions remove all the hardware from the office and provide a highly reliable and cost effective phone solution, offering more flexibility when considering business continuity.

Protecting In House Applications
If an in house business management application is used, there are various challenges to overcome. It is a common misconception that running software in one?s own office offers a higher level of protection, however, this is typically not the case when considering more substantial predicaments such as a fire or hardware failures. Generally, hosted service providers are ideal; they can spend more on resources, while their expertise allows them to build more redundant and robust solutions. However, if a hosted, cloud based solution is not an option, one solution is to image server drives, which creates a complete backup of a server and can be stored in a secure location. Another option would be to use virtual servers to supplement the infrastructure.

Protecting Cloud Based Applications
Hosted, cloud based business management applications store, process and manage data, on remote servers hosted on the internet. Cloud-based application offers various benefits, one of which is, it offers staff the ability to work from home, which would also be considered when composing a business continuity plan. When using the cloud, always confirm your software provider has a plan in place for business continuity and backups. Ask key questions, such as the steps to be taken in the event of a service or hardware failure, and the level of redundancy in the environment. Although their answers may be very technical, it is important to ensure the provider has a secure, well thought out and tested plan.

Backing up data is one of the most critical elements of business continuity, and there are many important factors to consider. Automation of backup procedures is critical, as it is not practical to ask a user to backup data on a regular basis. It is important to save only critical information, as opposed to saving everything; in order to make testing a more manageable task. Setting up a proficient backup strategy does not require an IT expert, online tools such as Cloudberry and Intronis, work well, and will alert in the event of a backup failure. For added security, backups should always be stored in an offsite location, so in the event of a disaster, the backups will be secure and unaffected. Findings mixed in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh

Each year, more than 10 million girls under the age of 18 marry, usually under force of local tradition and social custom. Almost half of these compulsory marriages occur in South Asia. A new study suggests that more than two decades of effort to eliminate the practice has produced mixed results.

Writing in the May 16, 2012 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association, Anita Raj, PhD, professor of medicine in the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and colleagues, report that marriage rates for girls under the age of 14 in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh the South Asian countries with the highest historical rates have significantly declined since 1991. Conversely, the rate among girls aged 16 and 17 continues largely unchanged or, in the case of Bangladesh, has increased 36 percent.

Childhood marriage, which mostly involves girls, is widely condemned as a violation of individual human rights. Numerous studies have found that child brides are more likely to die young, suffer from serious health problems, live in poverty and remain illiterate.

"There is a global effort to eliminate girl child marriage," said Raj. "Our findings are heartening in terms of eliminating the practice among very young girls, but not among older girls. There needs to be a greater focus on prevention of marriage among later adolescents. If we cannot impact reduction of marriage in this age group, we'll continue to see inadequate change on reduction of girl child marriage as a whole."

Raj and colleagues examined randomized cluster samples from multiple demographic, health and nutrition surveys taken between 1991 and 2007 in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh, where the prevalence of girl child marriages has historically reached or exceeded 20 percent.

They found that the marriage prevalence rate for girls under age 14 decreased across the board during the time span studied: 45 percent in Bangladesh, 35 percent in India, 57 percent in Nepal and 61 percent in Pakistan. Reductions in other age groups, however, were less promising. Marriage of 16- and 17-year-old girls showed no decline over the past 20 years for any of the South Asian countries assessed; Bangladesh actually demonstrated a 36 percent increase in marriage of girls within this age group. Raj said Bangladesh's significant increase in marriages among 16- and 17-year-old girls probably reflected a shift from younger aged groups.

The factors influencing reduction in childhood marriage rates remain imperfectly understood. For example, Raj noted that the laws governing legal marriage age are not the same for the four countries studied. "Pakistan has a legal age of 16 for marriage while in India, it is 18," she said, "but the percentage of females married as minors is greater for India than Pakistan, so we do not feel law has as much impact as social norms."

More influential, perhaps, is the role of education, which Raj and colleagues are now studying. "There have been rigorous evaluations of interventions in Ethiopia and Malawi aimed at retaining girls in schools, with the result of delayed age at marriage. We need better understanding of the degree to which girl education can reduce risk for early marriage among girls in South Asia."

Effective Herbal Remedy For Bleeding Piles, Natural Cure

Piles are a health disorder characterized by the swelling or inflammation of veins within the rectum or outside it. The medical term for piles is hemorrhoids. People with piles experience much pain; they can't even sit comfortably especially if the inflamed vein dangles out of the rectum and also much bleeding occurs during passing of stool. External piles also itch a lot. The main causes of piles may be listed below:

1. Low fiber diet
2. Low water intake
3. Constipation
4. Chronic diarrhea
5. Pregnancy
6. Obesity
7. Heavy lifting
8. Heredity
9. Sedentary lifestyle
10. Straining during passing stools.

Herbal remedies for piles or hemorrhoids can be quite effective. But you also need to alter your lifestyle to live a piles free life. Include more fruits and vegetables in diet.

That will increase the fiber content of your diet. Also drink as much as water possible. That will make your stool soft and prevent over-straining during evacuation.

As an answer to the query 'Is there any effective herbal remedy for bleeding piles?' I would say 'yes, definitely there is'. Some of the curative herbal remedies for piles may be listed below:

1. Juice of white radish is a great herbal cure for bleeding piles. You can drink the juice and you can also apply it on the affected area. In either ways, you will benefit from it. The juice is rich in vital minerals like calcium, potassium, copper and folic acid. It checks constipation and makes you less susceptible to piles. You need to 50 ml of radish juice two times a day to get rid of piles. You can also apply radish paste on the external piles if they pain a lot.

2. Leaf of turnip is an effective herbal remedy for piles. If you are suffering from piles, it is best to drink turnip leaf juice by mixing it with watercress, spinach and carrot juices. Apart from healing bleeding piles, turnip is also a great preventive measure for asthma, arthritis and cancer.

3. A blend of bitter gourd juice and butter milk is another effective herbal remedy for bleeding piles. If you consume this combination for 3 months continuously, you will be cured of bleeding piles. If apply the paste of bitter gourd root topically, that too can give you much relief.

4. Onion, a common spice is a beneficial herbal remedy for bleeding piles. Include ample onion in diet and get relief from bleeding piles.

So these are some of the effective herbal remedies for bleeding piles.

Bringing to the Las Vegas Strip a long overdue celebration of the visual arts and artists, the World of Art Showcase is holding its inaugural event at the renowned? Wynn Las Vegas Hotel December 20-22, 2012.

Presented by Jerry?s Artarama, World of Art Showcase is pleased to announce the addition of eight new, dynamic artists to the event. Receiving First Honors in the Portrait Society of America?s 2011 International Portrait Competition as well as certificate of excellence the previous year, former graphic designer Casey Childs (www.caseychilds.com) has received notoriety and recognition for his work nationwide and is collected both publicly and privately.

Cuban-American Cesar Santos (www.santocesar.com) studied at Miami Dade College and the New World School of the Arts before traveling to Florence, where he rained at the Angel Academy of Art under the tutelage of Michael John Angel, a student of Pietro Annigoni. He has been the recipient of numerous accolades including a first place award in a competition sponsored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Lauri Blank?s (www.blankstudio.com) sense of ?Romantic Figuratism? brings a sense of peace and reflection to the modern day world. Having appeared on numerous magazine covers, Blank in 2002 was selected as the artist for the Grammy Awards; her ?Post 911? Grammy work symbolized the patriotism of a nation blended with our love of music.

Exhibited widely across the U.S. and many international exhibitions in Europe, Leon Oks (www.leonoks.com) is able to retrieve the sweetness and ignore the bitterness of his years in the Ukraine, under suffocating Soviet bureaucracy. The women in his paintings are vessels of creative power and span the range of human emotions?she is Nature, Mother, Joy, Sorrow and Struggle.

Marcelo Daldoce, who once studied and lived at the Nucleo de Arte art school in Brazil, began his career as an intern in an illustration and design studio before working in advertising agencies. For six years, he worked from his own illustration studio, Macacolandia, with three partners.

English artist Mario Parga, Executive Director of the World of Art Showcase, is known equally for his virtuoso guitar music (www.marioparga.com) and his twenty-five years as a painter (www.marioparga-art.com) specializing in portraiture, figurative, landscapes and still lifes in the contemporary and classical realism styles. He has painted numerous high profile portraits for private collections around the world, painted murals (including all the murals at Chingle Hall, England, build in 1260 AD, as featured on a BBC documentary), exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the Pall Mall Galleries of London and had one of his Old Master copies (Bouguereau) auctioned by world renowned fine art auctioneers Bonham?s of London. Mario is a member of the Portrait Society of America.

After graduating in 2002 with a BFA in illustration from Brigham Young University, Salt Lake City native Ryan S. Brown (www.ryansbrownart.com) furthered his education by attending the Florence Academy of Art (FAA) in Italy. In addition to teaching at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art between 2004-2006 and opening up his studio to students for several years, he was the top award winner of the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship in 2004; won a Fellowship to the Hudson River School for Landscape; and won ?Best Painting of the Year? at the Florence Academy of Art in 2007 as well as the President?s Award. Ryan has recently been on the faculty of the First Annual Plein Air Conference in Las Vegas in 2012, as well as the Portrait Society of America Conference in Philadelphia in 2012.

In 2005, Southern California native Tony Pro?who received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Cal State Northridge and studied with famed illustrator Glen Orbik, was awarded the highly coveted Best of Show award at the 14th Annual Oil Painters of America Show. That year, Pro, a signature member of the California Art Club as well as an honorary member of ACOPAL and an adjunct professor of art at Cal Lutheran University, was one of the Top Ten finalists of the Portrait Society of America show in Washington, DC.

The groundbreaking vision of David Goldstein, COO of Jerry?s Artarama?one of the world?s most loved art material supply companies?the World of Art Showcase is very much a cause to reestablish the arts to their rightful place within society. It is an exclusive show for professional artists from across the U.S. and around the world to sell their art and make important personal connections with art buyers, collectors and galleries. Click here to view the video promo.

Fashioned as a harmonized presentation of the finest original contemporary paintings, the exhibition is fast establishing itself as a world class cultural event. Its primary goal is to promote the most talented contemporary painters in America, with work ranging from classical to modern.

Collectors are encouraged to view, compare and reserve favorite paintings on the World of Art Showcase online gallery, and then later at the show meet the artists/galleries who painted/represent the works and make purchases directly from them. The show is also open to potential art collectors and general visitors who may have thought about investing in art but need guidance. Goldstein and Parga see this as a completely new way of viewing and buying art, reflecting the start of a completely new age for the arts

Goldstein, a passionate art collector, and Parga, a musician, professional artist and Las Vegas resident, chose the Wynn Resort as their desired venue for World of Art Showcase for its amazing style and luxurious atmosphere as well as owner Steve Wynn?s reputation as one of the world?s top 10 private art collectors.

The prestigious presentation of artwork on display in the two vast ballrooms at the Wynn is the centerpiece of a multi-faceted three-day ?Celebration of the Senses? that includes live music, dance, boutique bourbon, fine wines, handmade chocolates, pastries, gourmet food and culinary arts.

Additional exhibitors will be announced in the coming months. For more information, visit www.worldofartshowcase.com or download the digital brochure here.

Facebook too hot for stop with Denver mutual funds

Facebook executives skipped their visit to Denver today as part of their pre-IPO roadshow, as demand for shares intensified.

The social-networking company's underwriters told area institutional investors to come out to Palo Alto if they want to visit ahead of the initial public offering on Friday, said Ross Moscatelli, portfolio manager of the Westcore Growth Fund in Denver.

Itineraries obtained by investment advisory website IPO Boutique had the company visiting Kansas City this morning and Denver this afternoon. But those plans were apparently scrapped after last week's opening show in New York generated a storm of attention.

Facebook on Monday night lifted the price range for its offering to $34 to $38 a share, up from $28 to $35, according to a revised securities offering statement.

Demand is so strong that the company also is expected to sell an extra 50.6 million shares in its "over-allotment" beyond the the initial 337.4 million it was offering to the public, reported PrivCo, a website that tracks major private companies.

That new price range and larger offering should raise between $13.2 billion and $14.7 billion.

Facebook's decision to cut its roadshow visits short doesn't come as a surprise, said Sam Hamadeh, co-founder and CEO of PrivCo.

"If they are oversubscribed there is no reason for them to get on a plane," he said.

A spokeswoman for Facebook declined to comment.

Companies going public use roadshows to drum up interest in their shares and get their executives in front of big investors. It is a testament to Facebook's popularity that it has upended the traditional model of companies paying homage.

"Demand for the offering outside the United States was so strong that it could probably carry the offering several times over by itself," said Moscatelli, who had hoped to meet with the Facebook team.

Sovereign wealth funds and pension funds, typically long-term holders, have clamored for shares, leaving less for everyone else, including Moscatelli, who said his $75 million fund isn't among those getting an allocation.

He doesn't plan to make the trip out to California and is telling his team to look at whether it makes sense to buy Facebook shares after its offering.

Some portfolio managers and research analysts won't buy a new stock without getting the chance to look management in the eye, Moscatelli said.

A key question Facebook faces is whether founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is up to the task of running one of the world's largest public companies, he said.

Will he prove a technology visionary with strong management skills, ala Apple's Steve Jobs or Microsoft's Bill Gates, or will he fall into the larger camp of entrepreneurs who aren't executive caliber, or worse, go off the deep end.

If Facebook hits some rough spots in the months ahead, it may regret the stronger connections it failed to build face-to-face.

"You would have to argue it does create some incremental risk going forward," Moscatelli said. "Incomplete information creates more risk. But because the demand is so high, they aren't afraid."

Penny Stocks, Buying PennyStocks Online and Search | OTCMAGIC

Penny stocks can be great for fast gains but one has to be carefull.

As most know OTCMagic.com covers anything that is hot and happening in the small cap markets and is quickly becoming the preeminent destination for information on APS and SMA picks. You can find our numerous articles on SEFE or SNPK on our homepage and in our Market Watch section.

They can go from active to dead with no liquidity in a several days and you can be stuck without anyway of selling. Penny Stocks are highly volatile and their direction is often much more difficult to predict then NASDAQ listed stocks. With Penny Stocks one can lose a significant part of one?s investment or the entire investment fairly quickly. I will be writing a lot of articles in the coming days on Penny Stocks and how best to trade them on the Market Watch section of the websiute so please check back often and make sure you are subscribed to OTCMagic.com For now I thought I would list the most popular penny stock keywords and what they are worth on Google PPC.

Tyson Beckford Sex Tape Being Shopped Around

An alleged Tyson Beckford sex tape said to feature male supermodel enjoying himself is being shopped around the adult entertainment community, insiders say.

What does the purported porn of the amateur variety contain?

The seller insists the 45-minute tape shows the former Polo model pleasuring himself during a recent Internet video chat with a female model.

Seriously ... that's according to the seller.

Tyson Beckford Photo

During the hot chat session, Tyson Beckford supposedly makes references to some of the movies he's appeared in, and talks about some of his co-stars.

He also says his pet peeve is being mistaken for Tyrese Gibson. That we believe.

A rep for Beckford says his camp has not seen the footage and will not release any statement until they can view the material being shopped around.

Slow year for these things so far. Other celebrity sex tape stars in the news in recent months? Hulk Hogan, John Edwards, Gordon Ramsay and 2Pac.

NVIDIA, Intellectual Ventures partner to acquire 4G patents from IPWireless

ImageIt's hard to read the word 'patent' and not leap immediately to 'infringement,' given the tech industry's recent track record. But in this rare case, access to that oft-contested IP is being spread like love -- very expensive love.
